I’m Totally Open to Anything

I’m open. Whatever you want. Seriously. You know me. I do have a very specific set of requirements for our activities together, but, within those parameters, you choose, because I’m easy, breezy, and totally open!

I have no preferences for movie night. None. I’m open. Seriously, any Baz Luhrmann film is fine with me.

Have you thought about what we should read next for our book club? I’m totally open. My one request is that we not read fiction, because I’d rather learn about the real world. I should probably add that I don’t do memoirs (too self-indulgent), biographies (too boring), or books about Broadway (I’ve read them all already). I’m super open to reading about London’s West End, though. But you pick and let me know!

I can’t wait to go hiking this weekend. We could use some new candid friendship photos. I’m open to the picture being cute and also to us wearing complementary colors. Do you have a favorite pair of orange leggings that would go with my blue ones?

I’m totally open when it comes to my birthday. Let’s do something casual. I just want to spend time with you, Dan, Jill, Eve, the couple from 7-C, the guy from 7-A who has boyfriend potential, my kickball team from 2019, the members of my college Mandy Patinkin Appreciation Society, and my kambo practitioner, who is willing to fly in from L.A., as a surprise. Please let me know about the party ahead of time so that I can perfect my “surprised” face and draft a birthday toast for you to deliver. But I’m very flexible on the cake. Will it have three tiers? Four? You decide!

Our improv show is coming up! I will “yes-and” any direction in which you take the scene, as long as the scene takes place in England and I get to do my signature Cockney accent. Cheerio!

I’m having a potluck next week—bring whatever you want! We already have main courses, sides, desserts, and drinks, so, if you happen to have a snow-cone machine lying around, that would be great. Off the top of my head, I might suggest root beer, blue raspberry, and piña colada as flavors. Feel free to grab a hand-cranked music box to play a song as people use the machine. Any hand-cranked music box will do—I’m open to all snow-cone music.

I’m excited for my bachelorette party at the spa! Some spontaneous brainstorming:

  • Whirlpool
  • Algae wraps
  • Champagne baths or cognac baths—I’m totally open to either!
  • Laura Benanti singing “Get Me to the Church on Time” on Cameo
  • A catered tray of imported crumpets, Hobnobs, and prawn-cocktail
    crisps

Let’s find a spa that offers these amenities! Would you like to search on Google, Yahoo, or Bing?

On our road trip this summer, I’m totally open to many different types of recreation—let’s follow our hearts. Fun in the sun sounds excellent! All I ask is that we listen to a cast recording of the musical “Anything Goes” any time that we’re in the car. I know all the lyrics by heart, because I played Reno Sweeney in my seventh-grade summer-camp production and reprised the role in my high school’s Cole Porter showcase. When we pull over for a bathroom break, I’m totally open to teaching you the tap routine to “Blow, Gabriel, Blow.”

Anyway, what do you want to do next? It’s totally your call—I’ll follow your lead. After you decide, you can book a time with me on Calendly, under the category “Thirty-Minute Casual and Chill Hangouts with Friends.” The link is in my e-mail signature. Quick and easy! Whatever, wherever, whenever: I’m open—you tell me! (On Calendly.)
